Everybody wants a home that feels like a home when they walk into it. Unfortunately, architecture today seems to have leaned towards this. Clean lines and steel beams and white Everything Everywhere, all the time. Colour palettes have changed from rainbow and multi colors to a Gray or beige palette that’s designed for our show home but not for a cozy home.
You might find linear gas fireplaces you’ll go too, for coziness when it comes to sitting in your lounge and curling up with a good book, but so many homes just don’t have this option anymore. There are plenty of great ways that you can inject a little coziness into your home, however, without having to break the bank and without having to make your home look as beige or identical to other great toned colour palettes. Let’s take a look at how you can add more coziness to your home.
- Think about your wallpaper options. Most people choose to paint their walls because it’s a cheap alternative. It’s easy to do and you can cover a large area with not too much pain. The thing is, wallpaper adds texture, coziness, and a homely look that makes your home feel like somewhere comfortable that you want to be.If you imagine all of the cozy places and book shops and cafes you’ve ever sat in, it’s highly unlikely that the walls are just painted. They either have wallpaper detailing or they have paintings, or they have something to give it some depth. You can do this with your home as well.
- Bring in some nature. If your lounge is somewhere that gets natural light, or you have open spaces in your home that gets plenty of natural light, then you need to add in some plants. Mixing real plants and full plants is going to get you the coziness level that you want. You can blend in nature with the reality of the natural world outside the windows, but bringing that into your house also means better air quality and it just looks lovely. Not only do you add some layering and some textures with plants, but you can add fragrance with flowers.
- Use rugs. You may have slates or tiles or concrete flooring, but that’s cold and it’s not connecting. Adding rugs of different sizes and different colors can prevent you from walking on cold floors and it adds to your feet feeling warmer. If you’ve got a fireplace in the house as well, then adding rugs can make you feel really comfortable and cozy and relaxed. You have to think of your home like your nest. Laying rugs down with different thicknesses and different colors can add layers to your nest.
Coziness isn’t something that you can just pluck out of a magazine. You have to really lean into what makes you feel most comfortable about being in your home and then make it happen. With the right design elements, you can make your home feel comfortable and cozy.
