- Pins with colored tops
- A black sharpie
- A orange sharpie
- Felt or scrap fabric (any color or fabric is fine)
- Colored pom poms
- Glue gun
Now that we have our list of supplies with us, let’s head on to the fun part!
Steps To Making A DIY Snowman Ornament
Step 1: Open up your baby sock and carefully place your foam balls in it. Put the 2’’ diameter foam ball first, followed by the 1.5’’ diameter. In this way the smaller ball sits on top of the larger one.
You now have the body and head of your snowman.
Step 2: Now, Twist and secure the top of the sock. This ensures that the foam balls don’t spill out from the sock. Now pull down the excess fabric left on the sock, over the smaller foam ball. Your DIY Snowman now has a cute beanie on his head!
Step 3: Take some twine, yarn or string. Use this to tie around the two balls, and define the body and head from each other.
Step 4: Bring out those pins with colored heads. Take out your orange sharpie to color one of the pins. This one will be for the nose of the Snowman. Take the black sharpie and color two more pinheads. This will be the eyes of the Snowman.
Step 5: Now insert the pin for the nose and eyes to their respective places. Voila you now have your snowman ready!
Decorating Your DIY Snowman Ornament
So, the basic body of the Snowman is done. But we are forgetting the most fun and important part of this – decorating the Snowman!
Bring out the patch of cloth or felt fabric that you have. Take the piece of fabric and cut out a thin strip from it, this is going to be the snowman scarf. For this part, you can use any type of colorful fabric that you want. You can even crochet a little snowman scarf if you’re up for it!
We are going to be using the patch of an Old funky T-shirt for this one. If you’re using this DIY project as a fun preschool activity, then we suggest using felt fabric because kids find it easier to use.
Now, the piece of fabric that you cut out, trim its ends into stray ends to give it a real look of a scarf – tassels and everything! Use a glue gun or strong tacky glue to adjust and stick the scarf properly to the neck of the Snowman.
The first accessory for your Snowman is done! Moving on, take a pom pom (even better if the color matches to the scarf) and stick on to the top of the sock beanie you had made for your snowman before.
Your DIY Snowman Ornament is all dressed up! You can also give unique personalities to each of your DIY Snowman’s by putting some paper cutout sunglasses to one of them. Add a mini toy guitar to a rockstar Snowman, or even some cute buttons to the body.
Christmas Goodie Bags
It’s not necessary to make these DIY Snowman ornaments just for Christmas Decorations. You can also use it as a goody bag gift. You can hand these out to children in your class if you’re a teacher, at Christmas parties or even to your kids as a bonus gift!
