If you have bought a new house recently then you may be excited to get packed up and move in. With that said, there are a few things that you need to do to make your transition a little easier.
Get Organised
One of the first things you need to do is try and get organized. You need to make sure that you pack a little essentials box if you can. This will help you when you arrive at your new home. There is a high chance that you will only have a few weeks to pack up your home and move all of your belongings into the new home, and it will probably feel like a huge task as well. If you want to help yourself then take care of as much as you can, ahead of time. Try not to leave anything undealt with and also make sure that you are proactive in your approach. Leaving everything until the last minute is one of the worst things you can do, so try and avoid this, and make sure that you are always one step ahead if possible.
Don’t Compromise
You also have to make sure that you do not compromise on removals. You need to make sure that you take the time to budget and take note of how much each company is charging as well. It may be that you opt for a packing service or that you simply get people to help you unpack and unload stuff that you have sorted yourself. Get at least three quotes if you can and then go with the one that you feel it reflects your needs the most. Don’t go with the cheapest because if you do then this will make your life a lot more difficult than it has to be, as you may find that a lot of the time you end up having to compromise on the service and you don’t need this at all. For larger households, or those moving long distances, you may need to plan your move way ahead of time and make sure that you have people to give you a hand.
Pack Early
Many people put off packing as they simply cannot face such a big task. With that said, if you can, you need to break it down into more manageable chunks. You can also hire a moving company to give you a bit of assurance. Just Move It is a great choice. If you can do this then it will seem less daunting overall. You can also choose to pay extra and have the moving company handle the removals for you. They may be able to sweep the entire contents of your house into boxes and this will eliminate the need for you to do it yourself. You also need to remember that a lot of the time, bags are as good as moving boxes. Boxes are essential but at the end of the day, bags are good for odds and ends, and they are also good for carrying things like books, as they may be easier for you to unpack.
Create a Room Plan
Draw up a general sketch of the room where you believe that your furniture is going to be placed. Try and take the time to label furniture according to your room plan. You may also want to hand out copies of this to your moving team as this will make it easier for them to put the boxes in the right rooms. If you can keep this in mind then you will find it easier to get the job done. If you have anything like wires to deal with then now would probably be a good time to deal with them too. If you have piles of Christmas lights then save yourself the hassle of dealing with this while moving. If you have a lot of computer wires and they are all going to one device then use labels or even take the time to number each one. If you can do this then you will find that it is easier for you to not only make sure that everything is organized but to also make sure that you don’t leave anything out. Essentials Box
Having an essentials box is always a good idea. If you can make sure that you have an essentials box then this will allow you to keep your remotes, phone chargers, and any other items that you are likely to lose, safe. You should also put things like medication in this box, as it will allow you to make sure that you or your family always have the tablets they need to maintain any issues. If you happen to lose your medication and you are moving long distance then it may be quite difficult for you to get hold of more so if you can do things like this, it may be helpful for you to try and plan so you have a few more weeks of medication than you need as well so try and keep that in mind too.
Make your Bed
Another thing you should probably try and do is make your bed as soon as you move into your new home. Make a note of where you have put your band then put it on your mattress as soon as you arrive. At the end of the day, you will appreciate it when you don’t have to do one more thing and it also means that when you are tired, you don’t have to worry about finding everything. If you can do this then it also means that you have a nice clean and ready space when you are done with a full day of unloading moving boxes.
Comforts
When you are moving house, you may find that sometimes, you just need a break and sometimes having a nice cup of coffee or tea can do just the trick. If you can make sure that you have everything you need to make a hot cup of coffee ready then this will help a lot. Put any fridge stuff you have like milk into a box, along with your tea and sugar, or coffee granules. Put your favorite mug in there too so you don’t have to run to the coffee shop to get orders in for everyone. This will save you a good chunk of time and it will also make it easier for you to get everything sorted out.
Deal with your Utilities
You need to notify your utility company that you are going to be moving house. If you don’t then you may find that you end up paying for someone else’s electricity and water, which is the last thing you need. One way for you to work around this is for you to set the date that you are going to be moving and then notify the utility company in advance. If you can do this then you will soon find that it is easier for you to get one thing done so you have less to worry about. Little things like this are often forgotten about but if you deal with them now then it certainly frees up more time to focus on the more important things that you might have to deal with.
Take out Insurance
Another thing you have to deal with is insurance. You need to make sure that you have insurance that covers you from the day you move in because if you don’t then you may find that you end up struggling to have confidence in your new home, and your general safety. Buildings cover is a must because if something happens and your new home floods because of an issue that you weren’t aware of then this at least means that you don’t have to worry about the repairs as much. If you can you also need to make sure that you take out contents insurance if you have a lot of expensive items. Your movers will have insurance if they happen to break anything but you do need to make sure that you have insurance for your new home too.
Another thing you will want to do is get a key cut for your new home and change the locks. If you can, you need to make sure that you take the time to secure your home as well. If you can do this then you will soon find that it is easier for you to stop people from accessing your home without your permission. Even though the old homeowners are not likely to do this, it comes down to the fact that you don’t know who has a key to your home, but if you eliminate the possibility then you can make sure that your home is secure and that you don’t have to worry about any security issues which should be the last thing on your mind when you are trying to settle into your new property.
